FAQs on WMRA Policies
As frequent travelers, we have an obligation to do our part in keeping COVID-19 grounded. Healthcare organizations strongly recommend that we utilize masks in limiting the spread of COVID-19. WMRA requires masks throughout the terminal and in all areas where visitors may come into contact with an employee or another visitor. Please join us in our movement to Keep COVID Grounded.
Please see the below FAQs for more information regarding our policies.
When do I have to wear a mask at the airport?
All travelers and visitors are required to wear a mask at all times within the terminal and in public places, both indoors and outdoors including the apron when social distancing is not possible. Employees are also required to wear masks in these public spaces or when social distancing is not possible.
Why do I have to wear a mask at the airport?
For the safety of our staff, pilots and passengers, we require masks in the terminal and shared indoor spaces. Also, as the airport is a gateway to and from West Michigan, it’s critical to prevent any transmission of the disease that could find its way into our community or spread into others.
Do I have to wear a mask when outside of the terminal on the apron or in the parking lot?
As long as you are safely-distanced (at least 6 feet) from other individuals, you do not have to wear a mask when outdoors at the airport. If you find yourself within 6 feet of others not in your traveling party, we require that all individuals wear an appropriate face covering.
Do I have to wear a mask on the plane?
Ultimately, it is up to the policies of your carrier, company and/or pilots whether you are required to wear a mask on the plane. We encourage you to wear your mask throughout your flight if you are riding with passengers out of your household.
What other precautions can I take to reduce my chances of getting sick while traveling?
Maintain a social distance of at least 6 feet between yourself and others not in your traveling party. Frequently wash your hands if you’re able, or use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol if a hand-washing station isn’t readily available. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth whenever possible.
What additional cleaning procedures has WMRA implemented to keep visitors safe?
We have implemented the following practices to ensure a safe place for all travelers, guests and staff:
– Established a COVID-19 response plan in alignment with MiOSHA standards
– Implemented a regular cleaning/disinfectant schedule throughout each day
– Updated our janitorial services to include in-depth cleaning and sanitizing protocols
– Posted communications and signage to ensure proper social distancing and face coverings.
What if I have been diagnosed or come in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19?
We ask that anyone with symptoms, a diagnosis or who has come in contact with someone with symptoms or a diagnosis please stay at home for the safety of our passengers, pilots, staff, and community.
If you’ve recently had close contact with someone who has COVID-19, the CDC recommends quarantining for 14 days in your home and avoiding air travel.
