Around 140 animals arrive at West Michigan Regional Airport for multi-shelter rescue effort

More than 140 dogs and cats arrived via flight from Louisiana to Michigan in an effort to relieve overcrowded shelters in the South before the summer storm season. This life saving flight was organized and made possible through the BISSELL Pet Foundation working with Louisiana shelters. Bissell’s trusted partner Harbor Humane Society, in West Olive Michigan, led the ground team for unloading and distribution to other shelter partners.

All animals were relocated to 12 safe shelters in Michigan and will be available for adoption/their forever homes.

They arrived Wednesday, June 23 in the afternoon.

The following shelters received and will care for the animals:

  • Cascades
  • Delta Animal Shelter
  • Great Lakes Humane Society
  • Harbor Humane
  • Hearts of Hope
  • Humane Society of West Michigan
  • Huron Humane Society
  • SPCA of Southwest Michigan
  • Lenawee Humane Society
  • Luv N Pupz
  • Humane Society of Monroe County
  • Noah Project
