West Michigan Regional Airport celebrated the ground breaking of the new Airport Office Business Center & Aircraft Apron Area project on Monday, September 21, 2015. Beginning with a flyover, five future pilots exited Metal Flow’s jet and welcomed the audience. The ceremony was held at the end of Geurink Boulevard where the building construction site is located.
Speakers at the ceremony include Matthew Haworth, Chairman, Haworth Inc., Tonya Schuitmaker, Michigan State Senator, Betsy Steudle, MDOT Airports Division, and Greg VanWoerkom, District Director for U.S. Congressman Bill Huizenga.
The 7,500 square foot building will be a gateway to this community for those traveling by air and will reflect the economic vitality of the West Michigan area. The building is expected to cost about $2 million and the total cost of all project aspects will be about $6.6 million. Approximately 87% of this cost is being funded by the Federal Aviation Administration, Michigan Department of Transportation-Aeronautic Division, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and local private contributions.
