On Monday, July 13, 2015, the West Michigan Airport Authority Board approved the low bids for construction of the new Airport Business Center and the new aircraft apron. The Board approved a building construction cost of $1.93 million (CL Construction) and the apron and associated site work construction cost of $2.89 million (Millbocker & Sons). Construction of these long-awaited projects is expected to begin before the end of this summer and be completed in August 2016.
The new Airport Business Center will be about 7,500 square feet and will replace the existing office building that has become too small to meet the needs of this airport. The new Business Center will be of a design that reflects the economic vitality of the West Michigan area.
The total project includes property acquisition, engineering and design preparation, actual construction, equipment relocation, and construction administration. The total cost of all project aspects will be about $6.7 million with about 87% of this cost being funded by the Federal Aviation Administration, Michigan Department of Transportation-Airports Division, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, and local private contributions.
There remain aspects of these projects that will not be constructed due to available funds at this time. Fund raising activities continue and if you are interested in making a financial contribution to this project, please contact:
